Student Clinical Assistant Program
Gain paid, hands-on clinical experience while supporting healthcare providers in the Primary Care and Sports Medicine Clinics at University Health Services (UHS). Student Clinical Assistants work directly with patients and staff to support daily clinical operations and build valuable skills for future healthcare careers.

The Student Clinical Assistant position is highly competitive, and we receive a large volume of applications for this position each year.
To increase the efficiency of our application review for 2026-2027, we shortened the application window from 2 days to 12 hours because of the large number of applications received. Key Responsibilities
- Assist providers and nursing staff with patient care
- Obtain vital signs (BP, pulse, respirations, temperature)
- Perform or assist with patient treatments and lab specimen processing
- Maintain a clean and safe clinical environment
- Transport patients or lab specimens between clinic departments
- Support intake, point-of-care testing, and electronic health record documentation
Position Details
- $10/hour starting pay
- Minimum 10 hours/week during business hours (Mon–Fri, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.)
- Must be a UT Austin undergrad (sophomore or above) with 1+ year of healthcare experience
Required Qualifications
- 1 year of experience working or volunteering in a medical clinic or healthcare setting
- Sophomore/second year student or greater
- UT Austin undergraduate student enrolled in 6 or more credit hours per semester
- Able to communicate clearly with patients and staff
- Able to comfortably interact with others from various backgrounds, while treating all patients and staff with respect and dignity.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Outlook and Teams
- Exhibits exceptional customer service skills when working with
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Medical Assistant (MA)
- Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
- Certified Phlebotomist
- Completion of 1 year in the UHS Volunteer program
- Pre-Med field (Nursing, Pharmacy, Pre-Med, Physician Assistant, etc.)
