In the UHS Gynecology Clinic, our physician’s assistant, certified nurse practitioners and registered nurses provide care by appointment. Welcoming any students with a need for gynecologic care.
Need help with gynecological care? We provide birth control prescriptions, IUD and implant counseling, STI testing and treatment, initial PrEP visits, urinary symptom evaluations and more.

Services Provided
- Routine annual wellness exams
- Contraception advice, prescriptions and administration (pill, shot, ring, IUD, implant, diaphragm, emergency contraception)
- Care for menstrual concerns (cramps, irregular bleeding, PMS, other related problems)
- Abnormal pap evaluations, including colposcopies
- Pregnancy testing and referrals
- Breast and chest health assessments
- STI testing and treatment
- Initial PrEP visits
- Evaluation and treatment of other common gynecological health concerns including vaginal infections and urinary tract infections
- Assistance with accessing Sexual Assault Medical Care and Forensic Evidence Collection.
STI Nurse Screening at the Gynecology Clinic
Meet with a registered nurse who has specialized training in STI screening and sexual health. During your consultation, you'll receive personalized education and, if needed, asymptomatic STI testing and treatment for:
- Chlamydia
- Gonorrhea
- HIV
- HIV – Alere HIV POC Test
- Syphilis
Incubation Periods
The time between infection and a positive test or between infection and symptoms is variable and depends on various factors. Many STIs may not exhibit any symptoms. Learn more on the STI Nurse Screening Clinic page.
STI Testing Self Referred Walk-Up
If you're not experiencing symptoms, you can walk up, choose your test(s) and provide a specimen. No provider appointment is required.
Visit Primary Care (SSB 1.400) or the Gynecology Clinic (SSB 3.408), Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Your specimen will be processed by the UHS laboratory, and results will be sent to you electronically through your health portal.

Screening Results
After your screening, expect to be notified of results in a timely manner. Negative results are generally relayed via your MyUHS/CMHC portal, while positive results are communicated through a personal phone call and or via secure message. In the case of a positive test, treatment arrangements will be made promptly.

Sexual Health Resources
The clinic, along with the Longhorn Wellness Center, offers a range of sexual health resources, including a welcoming space for questions and discussion, educational materials and workshops, and free supplies.
Students can also access our library of educational resources to learn about various sexually transmitted infections (STIs). These health topics and patient education materials provide reliable information to help students make informed decisions about their sexual health.
Sensitive Health Exams and Procedures
UHS utilizes chaperones for all sensitive physical examinations, including breast, genital, rectum and adjacent areas, and sensitive ultrasounds. Patients can request a chaperone at any time. For more information view the Patient Guide to Sensitive Health Exams (PDF).
Appointment Timeliness
Arrive 10 to 15 minutes early for check-in. If you arrive more than 10 minutes late to a scheduled appointment, your appointment will be rescheduled and you may be charged a $25 late fee.
