Danielle Underwood (she/her) is a Counselor in the Counselors in Academic Residence (CARE) Program, which provides mental health services within academic offices to support students' academic and personal goals. She offers clinical services to students in the Cockrell School of Engineering and is available for staff consultations and prevention services. Danielle also leads workshops and outreach initiatives addressing common stressors, anxiety, and pressures that students may face.
Using a relational, strengths-based approach, Danielle’s goal is to create a safe and empowering space for clients to explore the experiences that have led them to therapy while emphasizing the value of authenticity, connection and humor. Danielle’s clinical focus includes supporting clients through issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions and interpersonal difficulties. She uses a culturally responsive, trauma-informed and inclusive approach in her work, conducted through a lens of social justice while encouraging self-compassion, boundaries and validation of each individual’s lived experience. Danielle incorporates a variety of interventions in her work to best meet each person’s unique therapeutic needs.
CARE Clinical Services
- Students may be referred by a staff or faculty member. They may also self-refer by coming to office hours.
- Danielle is available to discuss students’ needs and offer appropriate services (e.g. short-term counseling, referral services, crisis intervention, and groups)
Trainings and Workshops

- Topics vary (e.g. stress management, test anxiety, assisting student in distress)

Benjamin Jones (he/him) is a Counselor in the Counselors in Academic Residence (CARE) Program, which provides mental health services within academic offices to support students' academic and personal goals. Ben is passionate about supporting emerging adults as they navigate the many changes and challenges in their lives. He is dedicated to creating safe, inclusive spaces to discuss gender and sexuality while helping individuals cultivate self-compassion. Ben provides culturally sensitive, person-centered counseling, recognizing his clients as the experts of their own experiences.
