SHARE Communities
SHARE Communities are weekly student-led groups where peers with similar interests, concerns, or wellness goals can find community and social connection that goes beyond surface-level. They are places to step away from the grind and let down the mask, where mutual support, imperfection, and “real” conversations are the expectation rather than the exception. SHARE Communities were created to combat loneliness on campus by giving students a place to be themselves and feel at home, and where their resources and wisdom can directly benefit others going through similar struggles.
Any UT student may submit an interest form and attend any SHARE Community at any time of the semester. Submitting an interest form is not a commitment, just an introduction to connect you with our peer facilitators! If you’ve participated in a Community during a previous semester and want to come back, please fill out a NEW interest form for the Fall to stay on their contact list.
SHARE Communities are part of an academic course for the trained student SHARE Support Specialists who facilitate them, and they choose the topics of their groups based on their own lived experiences and personal interests. Developing topics and leading these discussions is a core requirement of the students’ enrollment in the courses HED 178E and HED 178F.
Please note that all SHARE Communities are student-led and non-clinical and are not intended to replace clinical mental health services. Conversations with SHARE Support Specialists are private, except in specific circumstances. If members require professional assistance, SHARE Support Specialists will make every effort to connect them with the appropriate resources and provide information on available options.
While staff and faculty do not attend or observe SHARE Communities, they do provide ongoing support, resources, and consultation for the student facilitators throughout their time as SHARE Support Specialists.
