CSR operates under the auspices of the UHS Alcohol & Drug Education Program (ADEP), and is guided by a leadership team that includes the CSR Program Coordinator, one or more members of the UHS ADEP professional staff, and a strong advisory committee comprised of students and campus and community professionals.
Admission to CSR involves an application and interview process. Membership in the program is free.
Benefits of Joining CSR
CSR students are eligible for support and guidance in their academic, emotional, spiritual, financial, and social lives. Some students who are accepted to CSR and who meet certain criteria may receive partial scholarships and/or stipends to help offset the cost of college.
CSR programs provide diverse opportunities for students in recovery to learn, grow, and be of service to others. CSR students also benefit from a strong monitoring and support system and have the opportunity to develop close relationships with a community of recovering students.
Applying for Acceptance into CSR
Both students who have recently been accepted into UT and those who are already enrolled may apply to join CSR. Admission is based on a number of factors, including:
- Commitment to recovery
- Potential for positive influence on the program
- Potential for contributions to the greater recovery community
- Academic strengths and weaknesses
Requirements for Continued Membership in CSR
CSR students are accountable to the Center for maintaining high academic achievement, providing service to the community, supporting others in the program, maintaining their sobriety, and advancing their recovery.
Additionally, all CSR students must:
- Complete SW360, Principles of Recovery and Relapse Prevention, a 3-credit hour academic course in the School of Social Work (flexible)

Supporting the University of Texas Center for Students in Recovery
While The University of Texas Center for Students in Recovery (CSR) is funded in part through The University of Texas at Austin, the majority of our annual budget comes from fundraising projects and donations from generous individuals and foundations.
All donations are tax deductible and will be recorded with The University of Texas Office of Development.
The UT Center for Students in Recovery offers students a supportive community that promotes physical, psychological, social, and spiritual health within recovery. This support makes it much easier for a college bound individual that is in recovery to thrive in the college setting and work toward their academic goals. It also provides comfort to families who have to deal with the fears and reservations of letting their recovering loved one enter an environment that is well-known for drinking and partying. With the support of CSR, recovering students have the opportunity to complete their college education in an environment that values and supports recovery from addiction.
Your donation will support students in recovery as they earn their college degrees and establish themselves in a community as healthy, engaged and sober adults.
