Subscribing to UHS

(Service Extension Plan)

Students attending UT during the spring 2013 semester may use UHS 1/11/13 through 5/31/13.

University Health Services primarily serves currently-registered UT students. Other qualified individuals can pay a subscription fee to access the same UHS care and services that current students enjoy. The fee is roughly equal to the portion of tuition that is dedicated to fund medical services.

A subscription is especially helpful for students who aren't taking summer classes at UT.

Cost and Coverage

The subscription fee is $60 per semester.

The fee is not refundable and cannot be prorated, meaning it is the same amount even if you subscribe after the semester begins. A subscription is not health insurance. It is an access fee. Additional charges apply for office visits, medications, supplies, and procedures.

Once the fee is paid, the subscriber can use UHS through the end of the semester:

Spring 2013: January 11 - May 31
Summer 2013: June 1 - August 25

Who Can Subscribe

Currently-registered UT Austin students and contractual agreement students do not need to subscribe to use UHS.

Spouses and children of UT students cannot use UHS.

Individuals who fit into one of the categories below must subscribe in order to use UHS services.

Students Between Semesters

For continuity of care, individuals who were registered for the preceding semester and do not attend UT currently but plan to return to UT the next semester may subscribe for the gap semester.

Typically these are students who are taking the summer semester away from UT to work or study elsewhere.

You cannot use UHS if:

  • You have graduated and do not plan to return to UT for the next semester, or
  • It has been more than one semester since you last attended UT.

If you're not sure whether you can use UHS, we can check. Call the UHS Cashier/Insurance Office at
(512) 475-8394 or UHS Information & Appointments at
(512) 471-4955.

Future Students

Individuals registered at UT for a future semester, but not the current one, may subscribe for the semester immediately before their first semester.

Future students can use UHS without subscribing any time after admission to get immunizations or tests that are recommended or required to attend UT. Charges apply.

Post-Doctoral Fellows and University/Visiting Scholars

Post-docs and visiting scholars who are not officially registered for classes at UT Austin can subscribe to use UHS. These scholars must present certain documentation from the program with which they are affiliated. For more information, call (512) 475-8394 or visit the UHS Cashier/Insurance Office in SSB 2.106.

ESL Students

English as a Second Language students can attend special immunization clinics without subscribing. ESL students who wish to use UHS for other services can subscribe.
