Plan B (Emergency Contraception) Available Directly from UHS Pharmacy

Plan B is now available to those 18 and older without a prescription at most retail pharmacies.

From Friday, July 18, 2008 at 5:30pm through Sunday, August 3, 2008, the UHS Pharmacy will be closed for renovations and will re-open for business at 8:00am, Monday, August 4, 2008.

Students, faculty, and staff age 18 and older can obtain Plan B (Emergency Contraception) directly from the UHS Pharmacy (SSB 1.110) without having to make an appointment with a UHS healthcare provider. A photo ID that shows your date of birth is required.

The current charge for Plan B at UHS is $35 (price subject to change). As with any items sold in the UHS Pharmacy, Plan B must be paid for at the time of purchase. We cannot bill your "What I Owe" page. The UHS Pharmacy accepts, cash, checks, MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and Bevo Bucks.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration requires those age 17 and younger to obtain a prescription before purchasing Plan B. For UT students 17 and younger, a visit with a UHS healthcare provider is still required to obtain a prescription for Plan B. You can schedule an appointment by calling the UHS Appointments Line at (512) 471-4955. Outside of office hours, call the UHS 24-hour Nurse Advice Line at (512) 475-NURS (6877). The nurse will determine whether you are a candidate for Plan B and, if so, advise you how to obtain it as soon as possible. An additional charge of $ 18 (cost subject to change) exists for visits to Urgent Care outside of regular business hours.

The sooner you use Plan B after unprotected sex, the more effective it will be.
