Flu Shots on Campus

Getting a flu shot is the best way to prevent the flu.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone gets a flu shot each year as soon as they're available, unless there are medical reasons they shouldn't. It takes about two weeks after getting the shot to develop optimal protection, and flu season starts in October.

UHS Flu Shots are now available only to UT Austin Students. UT students can call 512-475-8301 to schedule an appointment to get a flu shot.

MOST STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO USE THEIR HEALTH INSURANCE TO RECEIVE THE FLU SHOT AT NO CHARGE.

  • Students with health insurance (except for HMO plans or government insurance plans like Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, MAP, etc.) can present their insurance information and get a flu shot at no charge.
  • Students with no insurance or who have HMO plans or government insurance plans (like Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, MAP, etc.) will pay the discount self-pay amounts for the influenza vaccine and the charge to administer one vaccine.
Click here for these "self-pay" discount charges

About the Flu Vaccine Used by UHS

  • It won't give you the flu. UHS is administering inactivated virus flu vaccine. The viruses in inactivated vaccine have been killed, so you can't get the flu from the shot.
  • UHS is not administering the "high-dose" inactivated flu vaccine for people 65 and older or the intranasal spray vaccine.
Click here for more information on the flu vaccine including who should and should not get a flu shot.
